And...we're off!!

We cannot believe it is finally here - but we are heading to the airport shortly to fly to Vancouver! Annotated bibliographies are done...research questions for the trip are in our notebooks...we are ready.

We will depart from Boston (Logan airport) heading to Vancouver via Denver. Our final destination tonight will be the Burrard Hotel in downtown Vancouver which will be our home for three nights. We will explore Vancouver through its city streets, rainforest, museums, and much more. Students will report in nightly about their days here on this blog and we will share out as many photos as we can along the journey. Our days will be long and full of adventure, but we will check in each night once we are settled back at the hotel. If we cannot post, one of the chaperones will send out an email update.

I had the pleasure of exploring Vancouver and Victoria this fall on the scouting trip. I have included a few photos below to give you a taste of what is to come for this group of adventurous and curious students. We are excited to explore, learn, and travel for the next week.

  March 7 2022 We started at the coffee shop at 8:30, getting ready for the packed day ahead. Most of us got breakfast sandwiches and coffee, and we headed to the bus stop that would take us to the Capilano suspension bridge. We walked on the bridge, taking all of the routes the boardwalk offered us whilst enjoying the breathtaking views of the evergreen trees and the steep drops of the cliffs.  Jake and Yasmin both got Beaver Balls from the park cafe which tasted like little pancakes! We also hit the gift shop later on. We then took the bus back to the city and then went to our lunch spot, a compact space with amazing tacos and burritos. This picture is of a non-invasive platform that was constructed for walking. A Victorious Victorian Venture

March 10 Our Vancouver Island Thursday adventure began with a sick diner joint– Floyd’s Diner. We were greeted with trendy tunes in the background and a combination of modern and 50s retro decor. I ordered “The Mahoney”, a random dish from the back of the kitchen. What arrived was a thick layer of golden potatoes topped by four fluffy pancakes with ham and scallions mixed into the dough. On top of that , a layer of 4 sunny side up eggs. Unfortunately, I failed to defeat the wonderful monstrosity, but soon enough it was time for us to do some walking…to the van! After a scenic drive through the deep green mountains of the island, we arrived to a hidden Eden: The Butchart Gardens. Originally a limestone quarry, the unused site began to transform starting in 1904 by the efforts of Jennie Butchart. Last Day!!

It was here. Our final day exploring the hidden metropolis that is British Columbia.  The crew assembled in the lobby of the lovely Royal Scot hotel where we met up with our fearless leader, Ms. Ducharme. Our first stop was the stunning parliament building. Nicolas, a jubilant tour guide, walked us through the rich history of both Victoria and British Columbia. We then came to arguably the most important room in BC, the Legislative chamber. This is where it all happens. Every British Columbian resident can view the chamber live to watch their elected officials debate, discuss and decide what the future of the province holds. We ended the tour with a Q&A with Nicolas which allowed us to take a deeper dive into our respective research topics.
